Cineflix announces over forty new episodes of Factual Entertainment Production

Montreal, May 12, 2006 : Cineflix CEO Glen Salzman announced today that production is due to begin on over forty new episodes of Factual Entertainment programming for broadcasters in Canada and worldwide.

“Our new factual entertainment lineup spans a wide variety of topics with international appeal, from how to live a healthy life to how to negotiate the real estate market,” said Salzman. “The company continues to solidify its lineup of factual entertainment programming by recruiting top talent from all over the world to produce programs in a genre that is clearly continuing to grow in popularity in Canada and internationally.”

Cineflix has greenlit production of the factual entertainment series Great Home Giveaway and Urban Legends, with production already underway in Toronto and the United States on Property Virgins and Wedding SOS.

Series Produced by Canadian Idol Senior Producer Martha Kehoe, the $1.4 million (Cdn) Great Home Giveaway (6X60) is a sensational new show where contestants compete to win a dream home by guessing its value. The series is produced by Cineflix in association with HGTV.

The $4.5 million Urban Legends (15X30), produced in association with Canada’s History Television, A & E Biography, FX UK, and Channel Five, is an addictive, entertaining and interactive new format that will engage viewers on television, the web and on their cell phones. Each half-hour brings to life three amazing tall tales so wonderful and far-fetched that we’re not sure whether to believe them or not. They’re all presented as fact, skillfully pieced together from archive, dramatic reconstruction and interviews to look like convincing, genuine documentary style reports. The twist is that only one of the three stories is actually true. Viewers are challenged to decide which one it is, offering an addictive format that tests viewers’ gullibility, smarts and sense of humour.

Production is also underway on the $1.6 million Property Virgins (13X30), produced by Cineflix and NextFilm in association with HGTV. Set apart from other real-estate programs because it follows first time buyers on their quest to find the perfect first home, the series focuses on the intense, roller-coaster journey of property virgins’ first foray into the real estate market, offering unique stories combined with the best of property programming and practical take home advice.

Production also continues on the $1.4 million Wedding SOS (10X30), a series that follows society and celebrity wedding planner Jane Dayus-Hinch as she helps brides and grooms. Unpredictable, emotionally charged, dramatic and entertaining, each episode features a couple whose wedding plans are out of control. But can the couple live with the planner’s regime of tough love to make their wedding the best day of their lives? The program is produced by Cineflix and NextFilm in association with Life and Living.

New Seasons of Science and History Programming Also Greenlit

Cineflix also announced today the production of new seasons of the company’s critically acclaimed series Mayday and Zero Hour.

Following three successful seasons of Mayday/Air Crash Investigation (Discovery Canada, National Geographic, and Canal D), production of a fourth season will begin in June, in Toronto. Named the most popular series by National Geographic Channel in the UK in 2006, the factual series investigates recent high profile air, disasters to uncover how and why they happened.

Season three of Zero Hour (History Canada, Discovery Networks Europe) will begin in June in Toronto and London with UK production company 3BM. A 3BM idea and format and Executive Produced by 3BM’s Simon Berthon, the series looks at the final hour leading up to the most dramatic events in recent history.

Finally, production continues in Toronto and South Africa on the $2.3 million White Night: The Last Days of Jonestown, produced by Cineflix, Nextfilm, Film Afrika and Galaxie in association with A & E, France 3, Vision TV and BSkyB. This feature length docudrama tracks the final, three-day build up to a horrific doomsday – the infamous mass murders and suicides of Jim Jones’ cult followers in Guyana.
