RUN-UP TO ATF
CINEFLIX INTERNATIONAL’S ASIAN INVASION PAYS OFF
November 2007
In the run-up to the Asian TV Forum towards the end of this month, London-based international television distribution company Cineflix International is delighted to announce the sale of 12 in-house, co-produced and third-party programmes to a number of Asian broadcasters.
First up, Thailand’s UBC has bought Birth Days 2 (26×30) a series about the emotionally charged first days and weeks at home with a newborn baby, and Urban Legends (15×30) which presents three incredible stories as genuine documentary reports, even though only one is true.
The channel has also snapped up Surf Patrol (13×30) about Australia’s world-famous lifesavers as they patrol the country’s beaches, Border Security 2 (20×30) which follows an expert team protecting Australia’s borders, and Medical Emergency 2 (15×30) which deals with the staff and patients at a busy hospital emergency ward.
Urban Legends (15×30) has also been bought by Hong Kong’s ATV, while mainland China’s Leland International has gone for the ever-popular Mayday 4 (10×60) which investigates both high-profile and little-known air disasters, as well as Machines of War (3×60) which looks at major milestones in the development of weapons.
Also in China, Wuhan TV has bought Huge Moves 2 (4×60) where teams of movers tackle almost impossible feats of engineering while trying to move colossal structures and ExperiMental (20×30) which uses oddball experiments to show how science is part of our everyday lives.
Moving across the water to Japan, Media Universal has bought selected episodes of Mayday as well as Mayday spin-off special feature Crash of the Century (1×90) which looks at the appalling collision at Tenerife Airport in 1977 which killed 583 people.
Staying in Japan, Nippon TV has bought Body Specialists (10×30) which explores fascinating and innovative cosmetic and plastic surgical procedures through the deeply personal journeys of the people experiencing them, and Zero Hour 1 (4×60) which dramatises the last hour leading up to some of the world’s most memorable historical events.
Kate Llewellyn Jones, Sales Manager for Asia at Cineflix International commented: “These recent deals are extremely encouraging with business in Asia getting stronger all the time. The quality and diversity of new territories and companies attending the market is certainly on the ascendance.”
