SERVING LATIN TASTES

January 2008

Cineflix International headed off to Vegas at the end of January hopeful to entice more buyers from the Americas after a spate of hard won deals came through from the territory. First off in Mexico, Canal 11 acquired Birth Days – a 26×30 min compelling series of up-close and personal stories where each thirty-minute episode follows one family on their journey into parenthood, focusing on the dramatic first days of living with baby at home. Birth Days explores the emotional, medical, economic and social aspects of parenting and the post-partum experience. Then onto a pan Latin American deal with Claxson, the Turner Broadcasting owned pay television network which operates across the Latin American market including Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Spain and Portugal with a reach of 51 million subscribers.

Claxson subscribers will be served up a treat of the first series of Final 24, a compelling documentary series unlocking the hidden secrets, psychological flaws and bizarre events that result in the tragic deaths of six global icons, mapping out the final 24 hours of a different famous person’s life.

Then Urban Legends will be broadcast across the Claxson network, a show which was the first Cineflix production produced for cross platform distribution with specific content available for mobile and IPTV. Revolving around three incredible stories of which only one is actually true, the programme nevertheless presents all three as genuine documentary reports. Viewers are challenged to decide who are the liars and who are genuine.

Finally over to Portugal where state broadcaster RTP has gone for Crash of the Century, the 1×90 min special from the producers of the internationally acclaimed series, MAYDAY. This full-length documentary-based drama focuses on the 1977 Tenerife collision and the investigation that ensued when 583 people lost their lives in an intense fireball – a fire that took over 24 hours to control.

Sandra Piha, Sales Manager for the Latin Territory said: ‘Latin America continues to have a growing appetite for quality factual entertainment and formats. Cineflix International’s business is consistently increasing in the region clearly pointing to the sheer quality of our catalogue and the strong ratings they generate.’
