Broadcasters greenlight "Pilot Season". New Cineflix series follows actors chasing dreams in L.A
Montreal, June 28, 2001 – Canada’s Life Network and the UK’s Living are banking on PILOT SEASON, the new Cineflix series that delves into the high hopes and rough times of young actors seeking fame and fortune in Hollywood.
“With Life and Living on board, we’ll go into production this fall and start shooting in January,” Cineflix president Glen Salzman announced today. “The initial cycle of the series – for which US rights are still available – will be 13 half-hours at a budget of $1.2 million US.”
“Pilot Season is a behind-the-scenes look at ambitious young actors trying to make it during what’s become an intense ritual for new talent,” explains Salzman. “The ups and downs of their stories during this showbiz whirlwind probably have more built in drama than most television dramas.”
Every winter, network producers spend millions producing pilots – sample episodes – banking on the chance that one will be a winner and lead to a new prime time series. The documentary series captures the real stories of young actors from Canada, the UK and the US as they try to make it in LA. PILOT SEASON goes to the meetings with agents, the auditions, the work-outs, the parties and the beaches with young hopefuls who’ll do almost anything to land the part.
With offices in Montreal and Toronto, Cineflix is a leading producer of non-fiction programming. Current documentary series include the hit show on working canines DOGS WITH JOBS (39×30) for LIFE Network, CBC, PBS, and National Geographic International; BIRTH STORIES (38×30 and 6 x60) an intimate look at the life-changing experience of having a child (LIFE, LIVING); e-LOVE (13×30) about couples clicking on the internet (WTN) and THE GENE HUNTERS (13×30), on amazing quests in genetics (National Geographic International, Discovery Canada, La Cinquieme, SWR).
Birth Stories begins its second season on Life this fall. Dogs with Jobs is now gearing up for its third season on Life (starting in January) and e-love will debut on WTN in January.
